As a decoration or part of a game a treasure chest is a must for your pirate party. You could go and buy a chest, or you could use cardboard, paint and some washi tape. If you want to go the DIY way we have the tutorial for you.
You will need
Brown Paper or plain paper painted brown
Gold Washi Tape
The best box to use is one with an attached lid that lifts up. Some shoe boxes or bulk chocolate boxes do this, it if you don’t have one of those any box with a lid will work. Either have it as a separate lid or tape the lid on to open and close like a flap.
Cut the box as needed to make the shape you want. For this box I cut off the side flaps for a flat lid. Cover the box with the brown paper ensuring the box can open. It’s not a present so don’t enclose it, you want to be able to fill it when it’s finished. I actually like the painted paper better than plain brown paper as it gives the chest more of a wood feel and you can mix your paints to be the colour you want.
Once covered in paper use gold washi tape to add embellishments around the chest with vertical and horizontal lines.
Draw a lock on for effect and if you are artsy you can add more details.
Once finished filly your chest with treasure. In this picture the chest is mostly filled with fabric then topped with the jewellery and coins.
